Philosophy + Values
ECO-FRIENDLY
Interior design is intrinsically fleeting, especially if primarily based on aesthetics and current trends. Here today and gone tomorrow - a costly exchange for us and for the earth. Moods shift, situations change, and furniture-of-the-moment eventually finds it’s way to the landfill.
Makers + Holm is committed to responsibly resourced materials with less of a carbon foot print and overall negative impact on the environment. Interior trends are met with a wink and a nod, as a complimentary and fresh perspective, as long as they’re locally made and sustainably sourced in the U.S.A. When materials become unusable, our best efforts are made to re-purpose, upcycle, and/or find a new home for them by donating to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore program. Clients are encouraged to seek out purposeful elements of décor they may already have, or consider vintage or antiques pieces, before making a decision to buy new things. We believe this approach is the pathway for a more meaningful and interesting home!
SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE
For Families with Special Needs and Challenging Circumstances…
If the way in which our homes are built, designed, and lived in profoundly impacts our well-being and the environment, then design services and eco-friendly materials should be accessible to more people. Makers + Holm is committed to bringing holistic design into the homes of families with special needs. We support and endorse programs that make it their mission to provide healthy and safe home environments for people of all backgrounds. Your business with M+H allows us to make a monthly donation to initiatives such as the National Center for Healthy Housing.
For the Makers…
Our goal is to introduce you to the many, many local artisans that so deserve to be in the spotlight. Mastery of craft enriches the life of the maker and at the same time adds a simple yet sophisticated complexity to any community. We are all better off when talented folks answer their calling.
Makers + Holm believes in the importance of creative endeavors and endorses fair wages, diversity, and a robust collaboration with artisans who could use a stage to connect with their audience.
